About SubSnitch
Every day, millions of people unknowingly sign up for subscriptions they never wanted. A pre-checked checkbox here, a "free trial" that auto-renews there, fine print designed to be invisible. These are not accidents — they are carefully engineered dark patterns built to extract money from people who are not paying close enough attention.
We think that is wrong.
The Problem
Dark patterns in subscription flows have become an epidemic. Companies spend millions optimizing their checkout pages — not to make them clearer, but to make them more deceptive. Pre-checked boxes that add recurring charges. "Free trial" buttons in large text with "$49.99/month after 3 days" in 8px gray-on-gray font. Cancellation flows that require phone calls during narrow business hours.
The FTC has taken action against some of the worst offenders, but regulation moves slowly. Consumers need protection now.
The Solution
SubSnitch is a Chrome extension that acts as your personal dark pattern detector. It scans checkout pages in real time, analyzing the DOM for known deceptive patterns: pre-checked subscription boxes, hidden recurring charges in fine print, misleading "free" offers, and more.
When SubSnitch finds something suspicious, it shows you a clear, prominent warning — before you click "Buy." No more discovering mystery charges on your credit card statement.
Our Principles
Privacy first. SubSnitch processes everything locally in your browser. We do not collect data, run analytics, or track you. Your browsing is your business.
Free forever. Consumer protection should not be a premium feature. SubSnitch is and will always be free to use.
Built with transparency. We believe a tool designed to promote honesty should itself be honest. Our practices, policies, and principles are all out in the open.
Who We Are
SubSnitch is built by a small team passionate about consumer protection. We believe the internet should be fair, and that nobody should lose money to deceptive design. For questions or concerns, reach us at subsnitch@gmail.com.
